Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Test Execution & Operation: Setup, calibrate, and operate UTMs (e.g., Instron, MTS, ZwickRoell) to perform a wide range of mechanical tests including tensile, compression, shear, torsion, and cyclic testing.

  • Fixture Design: Design and fabricate custom grips, fixtures, and jigs to accommodate unique or non-standard test specimens.

  • Data Analysis & Reporting: Analyze raw stress-strain data, calculate material properties (such as Young's Modulus, yield strength, ultimate tensile strength, and elongation), and author comprehensive technical test reports.

  • Standards Compliance: Ensure all testing procedures strictly adhere to relevant international standards (ASTM, ISO, DIN, etc.) and internal company quality protocols.

  • Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and coordinate external calibration for UTMs, load cells, extensometers, and environmental chambers.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with R&D, Product Design, and Quality Assurance teams to interpret test results, investigate material failures, and guide material selection.

  • Continuous Improvement: Develop and optimize automated testing scripts (using software like Bluehill, TestSuite, or LabVIEW) to improve lab efficiency and data accuracy.

Technical Skills

  • UTM Software Proficiency: Deep familiarity with testing software such as Instron Bluehill, MTS TestSuite, or ZwickRoell testXpert.

  • CAD Tools: Proficiency in SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, or Creo for designing custom test fixtures.

  • Material Knowledge: Strong foundational understanding of the mechanical behavior of materials (metals, plastics, composites, elastomers, and ceramics).

  • Instrumentation: Experience using extensometers, strain gauges, load cells, and digital image correlation (DIC) systems.

  • Statistical Analysis: Familiarity with data analysis tools (Minitab, MATLAB, or Excel) for processing large datasets and performing Gage R&R studies.

Requirements

Required Skills & Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Degree: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical field.

  • Experience: 5+ years of hands-on experience in a mechanical testing laboratory environment specifically operating UTMs.

Preferred/Bonus Qualifications

  • Experience with environmental chamber testing (high/low temperature mechanical testing).

  • Knowledge of Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and root-cause analysis methodologies.

  • Familiarity with lab management standards like ISO 17025.
