About the Role
We are looking for a GIS Developer with a strong foundation in GIS and geospatial technologies and hands-on software development experience, particularly in Python.
You will work on building scalable geospatial applications, data-processing pipelines and spatial analytics capabilities that power Aereo Cloud. The role involves working with diverse geospatial datasets, developing algorithms and services, and translating real-world geospatial problems into robust software solutions.
The ideal candidate combines strong GIS domain knowledge with practical programming and application development skills and is comfortable working across spatial data, algorithms, databases and software systems.
Key Responsibilities

Develop and implement geospatial data processing, analysis and spatial analytics solutions.

Build and maintain GIS applications, tools and services using Python and relevant geospatial libraries.

Work with diverse geospatial data formats including Shapefile, GeoJSON, KML, GeoTIFF and other raster/vector datasets.

Perform vector analytics, spatial operations, coordinate transformations and spatial data manipulation.

Develop scalable geospatial processing workflows using open-source technologies such as GDAL, GeoPandas, Shapely, Rasterio, PostGIS and QGIS.

Design and optimize spatial data-processing algorithms for large and complex datasets.

Work with PostgreSQL/PostGIS and other spatial databases for storing, querying and processing geospatial data.

Collaborate with Product, Engineering, GIS, Computer Vision and other cross-functional teams to integrate geospatial capabilities into Aereo Cloud.

Translate geospatial research, methodologies and domain requirements into practical, production-ready software solutions.

Contribute to the design, development, testing and deployment of GIS applications and services.

Analyze and improve the performance, scalability and reliability of existing geospatial software.

Work on geospatial applications across use cases such as infrastructure monitoring, mining, agriculture, environmental analysis and large-scale mapping.

Stay updated with emerging GIS, remote sensing, spatial analytics and geospatial software technologies.

Document technical solutions and contribute to engineering best practices.
Technical Requirements
Must Have
-
Strong academic and practical foundation in GIS, Geoinformatics, Geospatial Technology, Remote Sensing or a closely related discipline.

1+ year of hands-on professional experience in GIS application/software development.

Strong proficiency in Python with experience building real-world applications, scripts, processing pipelines or geospatial tools.

Strong understanding of GIS concepts, spatial analysis and geospatial data processing.

Hands-on experience with vector data and spatial operations.
-
Experience working with geospatial libraries/tools such as GDAL, GeoPandas, Shapely, Rasterio, Fiona, PyProj or equivalent.

Working knowledge of PostgreSQL/PostGIS or another spatial database.
-
Experience working with common geospatial formats such as Shapefile, GeoJSON, KML/KMZ, GeoTIFF etc.

Familiarity with QGIS and/or ArcGIS.

Understanding of coordinate reference systems, projections and spatial transformations.
Good to Have

Experience developing and deploying GIS applications or geospatial APIs.

Experience with FastAPI, Flask, Django or similar Python frameworks.

Familiarity with web-mapping technologies such as Leaflet, Mapbox or OpenLayers.

Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure and cloud-based geospatial processing.

Exposure to remote sensing and satellite/drone imagery analysis.

Experience working with LiDAR, point clouds, DEM/DSM or 3D geospatial datasets.

Familiarity with machine learning or statistical modelling applied to geospatial problems.

Experience with large-scale geospatial data processing and optimization.

Exposure to agriculture, mining, infrastructure monitoring, environmental analysis or similar geospatial applications.

Contributions to open-source GIS/geospatial projects.
Educational Qualifications
Mandatory

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Geoinformatics, GIS, Geospatial Technology, Remote Sensing, Geography, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology or a closely related discipline.

Candidates must have a formal academic background in GIS/geospatial technologies or a closely related field.

Candidates without relevant GIS/geospatial academic or professional foundations will not be considered.
Preferred

Master's degree in GIS, Geoinformatics, Remote Sensing, Geospatial Science, Geomatics or a related specialization.

Relevant certifications or specialized coursework in GIS, remote sensing or geospatial technologies.
